THE STORY OF LIVE AND I LEARN:

 

In January 2021, Vance Powell asked The Weird Sisters to be part of the “pureMix.net Start to Finish Series.”

 

The concept of the “Start to Finish Series” is to film a band writing and recording a song from initial idea to final mix.
 

Every detail of the creative, recording, and production process was documented. Like everything dude. From writing the song to final mix. It took about 2 weeks. We started at Blackbird Studio A and finished all the overdubs at Sputnik Sound. It was wild.

So we had to write a song on the spot. No problem. We already had this groovin riff in our back pocket from a camping trip we took in the Smoky Mountains a few months earlier. We decided it was the perfect foundation to build a funky song upon.

We worked out the riff and the lyrics and laid it down.

Having 12 cameramen filming you at your most vulnerable was a little shocking at first, but we got used to it quick. We're some sluts for some good ol' fashioned pressure. 

Our friend, collaborator, and fellow buttercreamer, The Real Tom Productions,  joined us for a few days with his camera and captured the recording process like a fly on the wall. The album art is a collage of still shots from this footage and the music video. (We printed them out and taped them to a kickdrum head.)

The entirety of this analog footage  will be available soon on our youtube channel, for it is a strenuous edit! 

 

The song is pretty tongue and cheek. It's about not giving into distraction, when you're onto something important. Our distraction is, as always: the booty. the freak sauce. The perfect metaphor.

The puremix.net project quickly became a transitional point in our bands ever evolving history. Suddenly we were working in a real studio with a real producer and engineer. We learned so much so quickly, maybe most importantly how records get made. After being completely DIY for so many years, it was humbling.
